Invitation to Journal Writing on Workplace Discrimination

Posted: 26 August 2016

The Disabled People’s Association (DPA) is conducting a research study titled, “Discrimination faced by persons with disabilities in the workplace.” The aim is to understand the varieties of discrimination (known or invisible) people with disabilities face in the workplace and appreciate the social and economic consequences of such actions. This is a collaborative project with the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.

As part of our data collection process, the DPA hopes to recruit persons with disabilities, as well as their caregivers/parents, who are currently or formerly employed to participate in journal writing. Participants will be asked to keep detailed journals regarding their experiences at work for one month. Upon completion of the journals, participants will receive a $100 voucher.

Prior to the start of journal writing, participants will undergo a training session on Saturday, 10 September 2016 (10:00 am to 12:45 pm) at DPA’s office, which is located at 1 Jurong West Central 2, #04-01, Jurong Point Shopping Centre, Singapore 648886. The training session will introduce the process of journal writing and provide guided questions to help participants write more specifically about their experiences at work.

Further information can be found in the Participant Information Sheet.

If you feel uncomfortable with writing in a journal, but wish to share your experiences, we can also arrange for an interview or focus group discussion. For more information on how you can participate in a focus group or interview, please go here: http://www.dpa.org.sg/?announcements=invitation-to-interviewsfocus-group-on-workplace-discrimination#more-3116
