DPI’s statement at the UN on IDPD.

Miki Matheson, Programme Officer of DPI, speaks on the occasion of International day of Persons with Disabilities at the United Nations in New York. United Nations Enable #CRPD #disabilities.

Following is the text of her speech:

“Your Excellencies, distinguished delegates, ladies and gentlemen,

This statement is on behalf of all the members of Disabled People’s International (DPI) across 130 countries in 7 regions across the world.

Today, we join the world community in celebrating ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’. We thank the United Nations and particularly the leadership at DESA for all their efforts, especially over the past few years following the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  (more…)

ComChest Care

Community Chest has launched a new initiative, ComChest Care, today with their media partners. The aim of this initiative is to connect needy individuals and families in emergency or crisis (e.g. a family in dire straits after the sudden death of its sole breadwinner) to a lifeline and support via our network of VWOs. Community Chest aims to leverage on its strong contact with the media and VWOs to bring on a timely basis (within 48 hours) help needed by such people in emergency or crisis. 

As a community initiative, ComChest will include connection of help to all persons residing in Singapore, including citizens, permanent residents and foreigners. To celebrate the 2013 International Day for Persons with Disability (IDPD) and launch a new movement for the disability community, Singaporeans from all over the island are invited to attend the Purple Parade, enjoy the performances, learn more about disabilities and sign their pledge of support for the United Nations Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Purple Parade is co-organised by several VWOs with the support of Central Singapore CDC, NCSS and SG Enable.

Tigerair Policy on Passengers with Disabilities

In response to feedback from clients and members of SADeaf and DPA regarding Tigerair’s policy on passengers with disabilities, staff of SADeaf, DPA and Tigerair held a meeting on 12 November to discuss these issues. 

It was a fruitful meeting for everyone, and did much to clear the air on the following matters.

More about the slogan
